Dogs
According to Biologists, Paleontologists and Archaeologists... the ancient species (a mammal similar to a weasel) that would later become the domestic dog existed some 60 million years ago. Jumping forward through time and evolution, the Grey Wolf and humans crossed paths approximately 10 - 36,000 years ago. Selective breeding, migration and adaption later... the domestic dog was born. Since then, dogs have served in many capacities... from herding and hunting to protection, companionship and assistance to the disabled.

The domestic dog we know today is not only based on millions of years of change, but also specific changes that occurred with the industrial revolution... circa 1830's. This period changed the human culture from rural and agrarian to urban and industrial. Many roles played by the domestic dog became obsolete. People left the farms and ranches and mom-n-pop mercantiles for factory and corporate jobs, where the domestic dog's skills and companionship were not welcome. Dogs staying home with no purpose lead to problematic behavior in otherwise moderate and social animals.
Now the twenty-first century, the human climate is still an industrial one... but with knowledge and compassion and a sense of family shared with our canine counter-parts. With many dogs coming from shelters rescues and uncertain pasts, we now consider; training and rehabilitation, including our dogs in most of our daily lives, and social situations being appropriate for dog and their particular needs.
